Statement from the Editors of Family Science Review

At Family Science Review, we affirm our commitment to advancing scholarly inquiry that reflects the rich diversity of families and the evolving social contexts in which they live. As a leading journal in the field of family science, we recognize the importance of research that not only meets the highest standards of academic rigor but also addresses the lived realities of families across diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, gender, and ability backgrounds.

We also recognize that scholars and educators committed to researching and teaching about diverse families and their contexts face increasing challenges in the current moment, particularly in political climates where such efforts may be scrutinized or targeted. Family Science Review stands in solidarity with faculty and researchers who courageously engage in this essential work, which is academically valid and vital to the integrity and progress of the family science discipline.

Within our mission to advance family science and the scholarship of teaching family science, we continue our dedication to include research that: 

• Centers diverse populations and explores the unique experiences and strengths of historically marginalized communities;
• Engages with social justice frameworks to critically examine systemic inequities affecting families;
• Promotes inclusive pedagogy by highlighting innovative approaches to teaching and fostering discussion about diversity, equity, and inclusion in family science programs.

We welcome original research articles, theoretical papers, teaching innovations, and critical reviews that align with our mission. In addition, we encourage submissions to our Professional Development and Reflections Corner. We hope you will join us as we continue working towards a more inclusive and socially responsive field.

Together, we can build a future in which family science reflects and serves all families and in which those who champion equity are supported, valued, and protected.
